Estimates use the selected commodity, displayed product rate and package price. Rates and uses differ by product. Follow the label and confirm your buyer’s requirements.

How rates and costs are calculated

Each row shows one product amount for the selected commodity and your chosen level: Low, Medium and High where the label gives a continuous range, Low and High where it prints two separate levels, or a single rate. Rates come from the same label-checked records as the Grain Protectant Calculator.

Liquid rates are the amount of product (concentrate) per 1,000 bushels, not the total spray volume; each label sets the water or oil volume separately. Per-ton grain rates are converted to bushels with a standard bushel weight. Animal feed uses the feed label rate per US ton (2,000 lb) of finished feed.

Estimated chemical cost = package price Ă· net product in the package Ă— the selected rate, shown in cents per bushel (dollars per ton for feed). Packages: Gravista uses the 30 US gallon drum (3,840 fl oz); EverGreen Pro 60-6 uses the 1-gallon jug; the others use the bulk package named below. Chemical only: equipment, application, taxes and shipping are not included. Inselux is a facility space treatment and PBO-8 is a mix additive, so neither has a grain cost.

    Which product should I choose to protect grain at harvest?

    Start with your commodity and storage plan. Diacon IGR and Diacon-D prevent immature insects from developing into adults; Diacon IGR Plus adds an adulticide. Choose “Protection at harvest” in the finder or use the comparison to see eligible options.

    What if I already see insects?

    Identify the insect and check the product’s labeled use. IGR-only products such as Diacon IGR and Diacon-D do not kill adults; the finder’s “Weevil issues” goal lists adult-control options, and heavily infested grain may need fumigation first.

    What can I use on animal feed or pet food?

    This page’s direct-feed options are Diacon IGR and Diacon-D. Follow their feed-mixing directions; grain rates and finished-feed rates are not interchangeable.

    Is there an option for organic grain?

    Insecto and EverGreen Pyrethrum are OMRI Listed with restrictions. OMRI lists products; it does not certify your grain, so confirm with your organic certifier before use.

    Can I deliver treated grain immediately?

    Check the product label and your buyer’s requirements before treatment. A treatment does not guarantee insect-free grain or acceptance by an elevator or mill.

    What does the estimated cost include?

    Application questions

    Should I use a liquid or dry product?

    Choose a labeled product that fits your equipment. Dry products need no dilution but still need measured, even application.

    How are protectants applied to grain?

    Many labeled treatments are metered onto moving grain for even coverage. Follow the selected product’s directions for mixing, equipment and application.

    How much product do I need?

    Use the calculator with your commodity, total quantity and selected label rate. Feed estimates use tons; grain estimates use the calculator’s stated units.

    Why does grain flow matter?

    Your applicator must keep pace with the grain. Bushels per hour helps determine equipment capacity and delivery rate.

    Are empty-bin treatment and fogging the same as treating grain?

    No. Empty-bin sprays and dusts treat bin surfaces before filling, and fogging (Inselux) treats the air space of a building; neither treats the stored grain. Follow each label’s site and re-entry directions.
